Claridges Hotel

Claridge’s is one of London’s iconic luxury hotels, celebrated for its timeless elegance, heritage, and exceptional guest experience. As part of a wider modernisation programme, the hotel sought to enhance its lift experience with contemporary technology that aligns with modern expectations for hygiene and usability.

The objective was to introduce advanced lift controls that would elevate the guest journey while sitting discreetly within Claridge’s refined interior environment. Dewhurst was selected to deliver a touchless solution that balanced innovation with sensitivity to the hotel’s established design language.

Working in close partnership with Schindler Elevators, Dewhurst developed and installed a futureready lift control system with minimal disruption and maximum impact.

Claridge’s required a solution that would enhance guest confidence and comfort without compromising the hotel’s aesthetic standards or sense of occasion.

Key challenges included:

Introducing touchless operation in a luxury setting

  • Guests needed to be able to call and operate the lift without touching commonly used surfaces, while maintaining an intuitive and elegant experience.

Ensuring technology complemented the interior design

  • Any new controls had to feel refined and understated, enhancing rather than distracting from the surrounding environment.

Delivering seamless integration

  • The system needed to be fully compatible with existing Schindler lift controls and installed with minimal operational disruption.

Creating a solution that inspires and delights

  • Beyond functionality, the technology needed to reflect Claridge’s ambition to impress through thoughtful, contemporary design.

Solutions

Dewhurst delivered a fully touchless lift control solution that combined advanced technology with bespoke design.

For the Landing Operating Panels (LOPs), Dewhurst installed the Wave to Call touchless landing units, enabling guests to summon the lift from any floor using a simple hand gesture — eliminating the need for physical contact with public surfaces.

Inside the lift car, Dewhurst developed a custom Car Operating Panel (COP) using the US1 Touch Panel in combination with the HALO Touchless Car Operating System. The US1 Touch Panel integrated seamlessly with the existing Schindler controls and allowed for full customisation of the digital interface.

To reflect the hotel’s distinctive character, Dewhurst designed a tailored user interface featuring artdeco typography and subtle animated feedback as guests select their floor. Floor selection is entirely contactless, enabled by the HALO system, which detects a finger hover above the screen

Through close collaboration with Claridge’s and Schindler, Dewhurst delivered a discreet, designled solution that enhances hygiene, usability, and guest experience — demonstrating how modern lift technology can be seamlessly integrated into one of London’s most prestigious hotel environments.
