Maybourne Riviera

Set on the rocky peninsula of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, The Maybourne Riviera is a striking example of contemporary architecture overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Owned by the Maybourne Hotel Group — renowned for iconic properties including Claridge’s, The Connaught, The Berkeley, and The Maybourne Beverly Hills — the hotel represents the group’s commitment to exceptional quality and guest experience.

Following an extensive six-year renovation, The Maybourne Riviera opened in early 2022. Every element of the hotel was carefully considered to deliver a refined, modern luxury experience for discerning international travellers, where design, technology, and service are seamlessly integrated.

Dewhurst was engaged to support this vision, working alongside project partners to deliver innovative lift signalisation solutions that aligned with the hotel’s architectural ambition and operational standards.

For the Maybourne Hotel Group, hygiene, comfort, and guest confidence are paramount. During the redevelopment of The Maybourne Riviera, the Group set out to exceed established luxury benchmarks by rethinking how guests interact with shared spaces.

Key challenges included:

Redefining hygiene in a luxury context

  • The hotel sought to eliminate concerns around shared touchpoints without compromising the elegance and intuitiveness expected in a five-star environment.

Integrating advanced technology discreetly

  • Any solution needed to enhance the guest experience without appearing overtly technical, ensuring technology complemented the hotel’s refined interior design.

Seamless system compatibility

  • Lift control solutions had to integrate smoothly with the existing Otis operating system, avoiding disruption to core lift functionality while maintaining reliability.

Delivering innovation without compromise

  • The challenge was to introduce genuinely forward-thinking solutions that felt purposeful and enduring, rather than reactive or temporary.

Solutions

Drawing on our extensive experience in luxury lift interiors and signalisation, Dewhurst delivered a fully contactless elevator control solution that balanced innovation, hygiene, and design excellence.

At the heart of the solution were Dewhurst’s touchless elevator controls from our Hygiene Plus range. By removing the need for physical contact, the system transformed lift journeys into intuitive, hands-free interactions — an approach described by Luxury Travel Advisor as “a welcome hands-free tech touch in the age of COVID,” and by Traveller Magazine as a “lovingly realised detail”.

In lift foyers, the Dewhurst wave-to-call touchless unit allows guests to summon an elevator with a simple hand gesture, removing the need for physical buttons while maintaining a clear and effortless user experience.

Inside the lift car, the HALO Touchless Car Operating System was paired with the US1 Touch Panel, enabling guests to select their destination by hovering a finger over a beautifully designed digital interface. The display was configured with responsive day and night modes, ensuring the screen always complements the hotel’s ambient lighting and atmosphere.

All touchless Dewhurst products were fully compatible with the standard Otis operating system, enabling seamless integration into the lift car design and ensuring long-term reliability.

Through close collaboration with the project team, Dewhurst delivered a solution that elevated both hygiene standards and guest experience — proving that, at The Maybourne Riviera, luxury is defined as much by what is removed as by what is added.
